What is Genmaicha?

Genmaicha tea is a blend of green tea and roasted rice. The combination may seem unusual at first, but it is very popular in Japan and is rapidly gaining popularity around the world. The term Genmaicha is a combination of rice (Genmai) and tea (Cha). The tea originated in the poorer districts of the country. To extend the precious green tea, roasted rice was added. This made the tea more affordable while also enriching it with additional nutrients. Today, Genmaicha has a firmly established place in Japanese tea culture.

What is Genmaicha made of?

The base is green Bancha or Sencha tea. The later harvests of the year are generally used, as these leaves contain a mature, grassy, subtly bitter aroma combined with a slight sweetness. Together with the roasted rice grains, this creates a truly special taste experience. The freshness of green tea paired with nutty, slightly malty aromas and subtle sweetness created by the caramelization of puffed rice.

Preparation

Use approximately 1 teaspoon of tea per cup. Pour hot water over it.
Alternatively, use it as a base for creative latte drinks or smoothies.

We package carefully, lovingly, and environmentally friendly. The box, filling material, and greeting card are made from recycled paper, and even the packing tape can be disposed of in the paper recycling bin.
